DESCRIPTION

Artists used to copy the works of the masters at the Louvre Museum, thereby learning the painters’ techniques by copying them and turning an exhibition space into a studio.

In the same way, the workshop participants will study films by making remakes, i.e., recreating the original film with new actors and a new décor.

Remakes are not new. Professional film directors and contemporary artists have often drawn inspiration from the films of the past to express themselves. For example, Alfred Hitchcock was a source of inspiration for both the American film director Gus Van Sant (Psycho) and the French visual and video artist Pierre Huyghe (Rear Window), who recreated Hitchcock’s movie scene by scene.

Even when filming in rudimentary conditions, making a remake is a way of studying how film directors and filmmakers work, revisiting a film and making the connexion between the imaginary world of the cinema and real-world constraints.
